The Behavioral Sciences Division at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is pleased to announce the availability of one year long full time postdoctoral psychology fellowship position in pediatric behavioral health starting in July 2015.
The Pediatric Behavioral Health postdoctoral fellowship program at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is an integration of training experiences between the Pediatric Behavioral Health Consultation & Liaison Service and the Pediatric Behavioral Health & Wellness Service. The program is designed to provide postdoctoral training experiences to meet needed clinical hour and supervision requirements for licensure.The postdoctoral fellow will also gain extensive experience in pediatric behavioral medicine through inpatient and outpatient consultations and interventions. This model will prepare individuals who will be uniquely suited to work at the interface of pediatrics, psychology, and behavioral medicine, bringing broad based technical, clinical and management skills beyond those obtained in traditional models. We offer an individualized training program customized to the specific clinical needs and professional goals of the fellow.
The position offers supervised clinical training on the inpatient Pediatric Behavioral Consultation/Liaison Service. This will be a primary rotation throughout the clinical year. This portion of the program will include exposure to a range of childhood psychopathology as it presents in the interface of pediatrics and psychiatry as well as behavioral aspects of disease. The fellow will also gain an understanding of the behavioral health issues, impacted by and impacting on, medically ill children and adolescents in a large tertiary care pediatric hospital.
The other training experiences during the clinical year will include rotations in our outpatient Pediatric Behavioral Health and Wellness Service. Rotations are dependent upon the goals and needs of the fellow. Available rotations include: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit / Developmental Follow-up Clinic, Rehabilitation, Endocrinology, the Feeding and Swallowing Clinic; GI; Hematology / Oncology / BMT; Neurology; Plastic Surgery/Cleft-Craniofacial Center, Center for Independence, and the Chronic Pain Clinic.
Our program is primarily a clinical training program however research opportunities may be available for the interested fellow. Fellows will also be encouraged to develop individual projects or case presentations for presentation at national conferences. Faculty have access to existing databases and participate in ongoing research—numerous research opportunities exist.
Supervision is provided by the staff within the behavioral health program. Fellows will be provided with at least two hours of individual supervision per week, as well as direct observation and consultation during regularly scheduled cases. Additional consultation is readily available based upon the needs of the fellow. Group supervision experiences are also provided to further develop clinical analysis skills and professional development. Individualized goals will be established and reviewed on a quarterly basis.
Didactic experiences include routine case conferences and journal clubs. Specific training in ethics, supervision models, and consultation models will also be provided. Fellows will routinely attend case conferences offered through collaborating departments. Fellows will also attend Grand Rounds presentations.
The Behavioral Sciences Division of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is offering one postdoctoral fellowship position in Pediatric Psychology for the 2015-2016 period. Training begins July 2015. The behavioral health fellowship is for a one-year period and is full-time.
The stipend for postdoctoral residents is competitive and includes paid holidays and paid time off. Health insurance is provided.The availability of positions is contingent upon funding approval.
Candidates must have completed all requirements for their doctoral degree prior to beginning the program and must be a graduate from an APA accredited doctoral program. APA accredited or APPIC member internship program training is preferred.

Interviews for selected applicants will take place in early February 2015.
