Postdoc position at U Alabama - Dual Generation Intervention Study

The Center for the Prevention of Youth Behavior Problems at The University of Alabama has an opening for a two-year postdoctoral fellow.  The postdoctoral fellow will be actively involved in research and grant-writing related to child and family mental health and prevention and intervention programming. The postdoctoral fellow will also be involved in administering an ongoing intervention study funded by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) with Head Start preschoolers and their parents. The postdoctoral fellow will be mentored by one or more faculty members in the Center for the Prevention of Youth Behavior Problems (CPYBP) at The University of Alabama.  Faculty research interests within the CPYBP include the study of: child and family well-being; child school readiness; the etiology, prevention, and treatment of child disruptive behavior problems; implementation science; developmental science; and biopsychosocial models of stress. The postdoctoral fellow will receive mentorship in grant-writing and will be involved in preparing grant applications for external research funding.  The postdoctoral fellow will also be involved in implementing the ACF-funded study examining a dual generation child and family mental health intervention in Head Start centers in a 7-county area in Alabama. The postdoctoral fellow will have an opportunity to be involved in a range of activities in the ACF study, including: implementing a parent mental health and job skills intervention, assessing teacher implementation of the classroom PATHS social-emotional learning curriculum, and the collection of longitudinal child and family assessment data, including measures of executive function and physiological stress reactivity.  Ideal candidates for this position will be those who desire to pursue an externally-funded research career and who have training in child and family psychology, with an emphasis on preschool populations and biological and genetic aspects of mental health; strong writing skills; research or grant-writing experience, and an ability to work in a culturally competent manner with children and families from diverse backgrounds.  Candidates should have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology or a related field (e.g., developmental psychology, behavioral neuroscience, health science). Candidates must have received their Ph.D. by end of August 2014 with verification. The University of Alabama, founded in 1831, is the flagship campus of a three campus system.
