Postdoctoral Fellowships in Traumatic Stress

Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowships (2-3 positions): THE CENTER FOR THE TREATMENT AND STUDY OF TRAUMATIC STRESS (CTSTS) at Summa Health System (Akron, OH) is seeking outstanding candidates with interest in treatment and research of trauma and its consequences for two-year clinical/research postdoctoral fellowships starting July/August 2014. The CTSTS provides an exciting treatment and research atmosphere. It is a specialty clinic providing outpatient and intensive outpatient clinical services to a demographically diverse patient population with various types of trauma exposure.  Through recently developed collaborations and partnerships between the CTSTS and other hospital clinics and departments, these positions also include trauma-focused training opportunities in inpatient psychiatry, chemical dependency, women’s health, and primary care settings as part of efforts to promote trauma-informed care throughout the hospital system.  The fellows will receive clinical training in the assessment and treatment of traumatic stress and co-occurring problems in outpatient and inpatient adult trauma survivors.  We emphasize empirically supported individual and group interventions (e.g., Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy).  The fellow also will be expected to conduct trauma research under the mentorship of one or more faculty members. Opportunities exist to develop and conduct one’s own programmatic research and to conduct collaborative research with faculty members within and across the CTSTS, Department of Psychiatry, and other hospital departments. Current CTSTS faculty interests include the following: PTSD treatment outcomes; risk and resilience factors of PTSD; trauma-related sleep disturbance; PTSD and chronic health problems; trauma/PTSD in severe mental illness populations; trauma/PTSD in primary care; culturally mediated responses to trauma; trauma-related disordered eating; trauma and women’s health; trauma-related substance use problems; and advanced quantitative methods.

Prospective candidates must complete an APA-approved clinical internship and receive their Ph.D. in Clinical, Clinical/Community, or Counseling Psychology by summer 2014. Salary is competitive and includes benefits. To apply, send a cover letter describing your work and interests, curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation. Applications and inquiries should be sent (preferably via e-mail) to Patrick A. Palmieri, Ph.D. (ctsts@summahealth.org), Center for the Treatment and Study of Traumatic Stress, Summa Health System, 444 North Main Street, Akron, OH 44310. Review of applications will begin immediately and applications will continue to be accepted until the positions are filled. Women and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
