Mark Lumley, Ph.D.: The Role of Emotional Processing in Chronic Pain and other Stress-Related Health Problems

Dr. Lumley is Professor of Psychology and Director of Clinical Training at Wayne State University. His primary research focus is the interface of stress, emotional regulation, and physical health. In particular, he tests the health benefits of writing or talking about stressful personal experiences ("emotional disclosure") and examines methods to integrate emotional disclosure into cognitive-behavioral therapies. He also studies individual differences in emotional awareness and expression and other personality and situational variables as predictors of the success in therapy among people with chronic health problems.
