Position:
Western State Hospital is seeking a Clinical Psychologist to provide a full range of psychological services to individuals with serious mental disorders as they continue in their recovery and transition to the community. The clinical psychologist serves as an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team on an extended care inpatient unit. Duties include diagnostic interviewing, psychological assessments, behavioral interventions, group and individual psychotherapy, forensic evaluations, supervision of paraprofessional staff, and oversight of the unit program. WSH is a training hospital, so opportunities exist to supervise students and trainees.
Western State Hospital:
Western State Hospital is a 244 bed, accredited, public, psychiatric hospital located in Staunton, Virginia, where our new state of the art facility opened in October 2013. The successful candidate will join a staff of 16 experienced and highly skilled licensed clinical psychologists. Staunton is in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley within 30 minutes of major university towns.   We hope that the high quality of life, strong collegial multidisciplinary professional staff, quality reputation, and working relationships with academic institutions will attract the psychologist we seek.  

Minimum Qualifications, Salary, and Benefits:
Education, experience, and certification required for entry into this position includes; Ph.D or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from a doctoral program approved by the American Psychological Association. License (or license-eligible) to practice clinical psychology in Virginia. Completion or eligible to complete the forensic evaluation training program in Virginia. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in applying psychological assessments and intervention methods to individuals with serious mental disorders.   Salary is negotiable with the state’s excellent benefit package.
