New Post-Doctoral Position in Urban Youth Trauma Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago

The Urban Youth Trauma Center (UYTC) in the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) has an immediate opening for a post-doctoral fellow in its new national dissemination and implementation project called Unifying Neighborhoods in Trauma Effectiveness (UNITE) for the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). 

The post-doctoral fellow will work with UYTC Co-Directors, Drs. Jaleel Abdul-Adil and Liza Suarez, to expand existing UYTC training and dissemination efforts to targeted urban communities across the country including Chicago (IL), Los Angeles (CA), Oakland (CA), Laredo (TX), and Toledo (OH). 

Specific UNITE goals are to: 1) develop a national media campaign to raise awareness of the needs of youth exposed to violence and involved in court, juvenile justice, and law enforcement systems; 2) disseminate UYTC’s treatment approaches to NCTSN partner sites within targeted cities; and 3) replicate the YOUTH-CAN model in specific neighborhoods in target cities to create a forum for a powerful national collaboration to improve the lives of youth and families affected by violence. 

Specific UNITE post-doctoral fellow tasks will use a train-the-trainer model to work with targeted communities as a model for: 1) recruiting and retaining local youth serving agencies; 2) co-leading UYTC trainings and subsequent online/in-person consultations for targeted communities; and 3) helping coordinate nation-wide implementation and evaluation efforts. 

The UYTC post-doctoral fellow position will be up to a two-year position (renewable after the first year contingent upon satisfactory performance review).

Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Social Work or a related social science
  • Flexibility for periodic travel to selected sites
  • Strong interest in national dissemination and implementation
  • Ability to help recruit, retain, and support a national network of urban agency participants
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
