The Health and Human Development Division of EDC has an opening for an Research Assistant (II), reporting to the Chief, Mental Health and Aging, in EDC’s New York office located at 96 Morton Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10014.

The office of the Chief, Mental Health and Aging, leads major projects to promote the delivery and dissemination of evidence-based mental health practices and to reduce disparities in mental health care use among older adults. The Research Assistant will have an important role in cutting edge research, program development, and program coordination activities designed to increase mental help-seeking, promote the delivery of evidence-based services, and improve mental health in later life. The Research Assistant will be centrally involved in an innovative research study examining the impact of sigma on mental help-seeking among soldiers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

Under management guidance, the Research Assistant (II) provides support to qualitative &/or quantitative investigation efforts, including:
• Research & analysis, using independent judgment in consultation
• Drafting, revising
• Documenting & cataloguing
• Maintaining records
• Preparing recommendations
• Disseminating information
• Development and proposal assistance
• Developing literature reviews
• Coordinating multiple projects

The Research Assistant (II)
• Facilitates project teamwork; engages collaboratively in feedback
• Leads specific administrative tasks
• Assists with quality assurance
• Provides logistical support
• Coordinates activities and projects
• May be expected to travel

QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience
• Master’s degree or equivalent combination of training & education in a related field preferred
• 3–5 years related research, education or administrative coordination, requiring experience with computer applications (including databases) and Internet research
• Interest in mental health care and/or aging is desired, but not required
