Postdoctoral Residency in Clinical Psychology

The Arroyos Psychological Associates (TAPA) invites applicants to its postdoctoral residency training program in Clinical Psychology. TAPA is a California professional psychological corporation located in Pasadena, California, 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles.

This position is ideal for an individual with doctoral level training in clinical psychology who is seeking specialized training in assessment and intervention with patients who have severe mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, major depression, schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, severe anxiety disorders, and co-occurring chemical dependency. It is common for patients to have (a) co-occurring medical diagnoses, (b) neuropsychological diagnoses, and/or (c) psycholegal and forensic issues as complications of their primary psychiatric and psychological clinical presentation. These issues are comprehensively addressed within the clinical setting by the treatment team in an integrated case management model.

This residency is designed to prepare the candidate for a career in private practice in the Los Angeles area and to assist the resident in preparing to take the licensing exam to practice psychology in the state of California.

The resident will work in outpatient, Partial Hospitalization Program, and Intensive Outpatient Program settings. The resident will gain understanding of the interface between these practice settings and inpatient psychiatric, chemical dependency, and medical-surgical hospital settings. The resident will learn procedures for emergency clinical evaluations, involuntary holds to hospital emergency rooms and private psychiatric hospitals, and LPS conservatorships. The resident will also learn basic clinical psychopharmacology as applied to the practice of clinical
psychology.

The Arroyos Psychological Associates provides continuing education programming to mental health professionals in the community. The resident will have an opportunity to attend these programs during the term of the residency. The Arroyos Psychological Associates, Inc. is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Arroyos Psychological Associates, Inc. maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Accreditation by the American Psychological Association and the California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC) is being pursued. Applicants must have the following qualifications in order to be considered for the residency:
1. A Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology by the start date.
2. Completion of an APA accredited or approved predoctoral internship program by the start date.
3. Candidates are required to have already completed one year of predoctoral inpatient hospital training, and
candidates with two years of hospital training are especially well matched for this residency.
Interested candidates who meet these qualifications should submint a letter of interest, current CV, 3 letters of recommendation including one from the predoctoral hospital internship setting, and graduate transcripts to:
