The Research Fellow, within the Department of Psychology, will be responsible for working on two related Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) health disparities studies focusing on improving access to care in relation to reducing age of ASD diagnosis and enhancing ASD-specific services for children receiving early intervention (EI) services and following the transition from EI to preschool. Components of the project include both quantitative, qualitative, and health engineering methodologies, as well as a randomized clinical trial that employs motivational interviewing to promote ongoing access during the transition from EI to preschool. The professional development goals, including clinical and research training goals, will have a mentoring focus and activities related to these goals will be developed collaboratively. The incumbent will be responsible for data analysis; manuscript preparation; and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.
The post-doc will be part of a research team led by Dr. Alice Carter and Dr. Abbey Eisenhower (Psychology), and Dr. Angel Fettig (Early Care and Education in Inclusive Settings). The research team prioritizes inter-lab mentoring and professional development across lab members.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct and supervise diagnostic assessments with young children at risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule and Mullen Scales of Early Learning;
- Assist in overseeing the collection of post-diagnostic data from families, including conducting and supervising clinical interviews about service use and satisfaction;
- Serve as an interventionist and supervisor on an RCT of a new, motivational interviewing-based, parent-pre-school engagement intervention for parents of children with ASD who are transitioning from Early Intervention to school-based services;
- Assist in training and supervising graduate students to conduct assessments and intervention sessions;
- Provide training and supervision to Research Assistants in conducting participant interviews and other study tasks;
- Analyze qualitative and/or quantitative data;
- Prepare manuscripts;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Doctorate Degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. Fluency in or the ability to communicate in Spanish. Significant experience in manuscript preparation preferred. Experience or exposure to diagnosing young children with ASD using ADOS-2 preferred. Post-doctoral clinical hours and supervision necessary for licensure will be available.
