Post Doc Positions

Post-Doctoral Residency training opportunities, Substance Abuse Treatment and Outpatient Mental Health emphasis in the heart of one of the West’s outdoor paradises in rural Wyoming:

Mountain Regional Services, Inc. (MRSI) in Evanston, Wyoming, parent agency of the APA-accredited Cornerstone Behavioral Health pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology, has openings for three post-doctoral residents at our Cornerstone Behavioral Health site.

These positions emphasize being part of a clinical team providing comprehensive Outpatient Program Substance Abuse treatment with a lesser emphasis on providing outpatient general mental health services.  One or more of the positions may also include additional opportunities to work with our population of people at the MRSI site who have developmental disabilities and co-occurring severe psychological disorders.

The post-doctoral positions will be for one year, with a salary of $40,000 for a 12-month, full-time contract.  Some evening hours are expected.  The positions are available to be filled as early as July 2013, or as selected applicants become available following successful completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship, a prerequisite. An August graduation date is acceptable if all other requirements for the doctoral degree are fulfilled.  Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.  Telephone interviews will be made available for selected applicants.

Our substance abuse programs use the “Prime Solutions” evidence-based treatment model for addictions, combined with 12-steps and process group therapy.  Post-doctoral residents will be provided training and supervision in each of these modalities as they are applied in our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (AIOP), and stepped-down Adult Outpatient Program (OP).  Post-doctoral trainees will gain expertise in substance abuse evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.  Trainees will be part of our multi-disciplinary interface with Probation & Parole, Adult Drug Court, Youth Drug Court, Department of Family Services and the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.

As part of our outpatient general mental health services, post-doctoral trainees will have the opportunity to provide treatment to a variety of people in accordance with the post-doc’s areas of interest (psychotherapy with adults, adolescents, and children, family therapy, couples).  Individuals seeking treatment at our outpatient clinic typically manifest a wide breadth of diagnoses and issues including but not limited to life transitions, relationship problems, trauma, mood disorders, and character pathology.   Our internship has a psychodynamic training philosophy which represents an over-arching theoretical model for understanding the complexities of the mind, human development, personality, psychopathology, and therapeutic change even if treatment is provided in other modalities.  For post-docs, such an orientation is not required, but psychodynamic supervision and seminars would be available.  Post-docs may also have opportunity to teach seminars in areas of their interest to our predoctoral interns.

Two hours of face-to-face post-doctoral supervision will be provided per week, with additional consultation available, as needed.  Malpractice insurance and a generous benefit package are also provided in a state that has no state income tax and that has very affordable housing and cost of living.  Mountain Regional Services, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.  We encourage applications from people of minority or ethnic backgrounds.  It is our policy to ensure that each employee, and each applicant for employment, is accorded equal treatment without discrimination due to race, religion, marital status, national origin, disabling condition, sex, age, or sexual orientation.

Located in the southwest corner of Wyoming, Evanston is a hidden gem in a beautiful high desert region with extraordinary opportunities for outdoor recreation and access to wilderness.  Scenic locales abound for backpacking, hiking, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing and world renown skiing.  Jackson Hole, Grand Teton National Park, and Yellowstone are a few hours north, while redrock deserts of southern Utah are a few hours south.  Within an hour are the 2002 Winter Olympic venues.  In addition to our quaint rural setting, urban amenities are readily available for a visit or an easy commute in Park City, home of the Sundance Film Festival, and Salt Lake City, Utah, providing fine cuisine, private art galleries, the Utah Symphony, and the Utah Jazz.  Send your resume/curriculum vita and letter of interest to: Melanie Mari, Administrative Director, by emailing to
