Why Some Students Struggle to Learn: Assessing Memory and Learning
Why do some students seem to remember information immediately after they hear it, but not the following day? And why do some students struggle with mental math? To learn and remember information, individuals begin by encoding the information. They hold the information in short-term memory until a permanent memory trace is created in long-term memory. To show that they have acquired the skills and knowledge, they retrieve the information from long-term storage. This webinar will describe the assessment process that will allow us to understand how a weakness in memory can affect a student's learning. At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to describe (1) the process of learning and remembering; (2) theories of memory and learning; and (3) commonly used assessments of memory and learning.
