2-year postdoctoral position at the University of Alabama

We expect to have a 2-year postdoctoral position available at the University of Alabama, starting late Summer/early Fall 2014.   We will formally advertise the position in 1-2 months, but thought we would give a heads up, in case you have any trainees who may be interested.

The primary goals will be for the postdoc to be involved in:

1)      A research study that we recently received funding for from the Administration for Children and Families.  We will provide social-emotional programming in Head Start classrooms (using the PATHS preschool curriculum) as well as a parent intervention (mental health and job/financial skills training) to families in Head Start programs in a 7-county area in Alabama.  The postdoctoral fellow could be involved in a range of activities including:  implementing the parent intervention in Head Start settings, measuring the fidelity of teacher implementation of the classroom PATHS curriculum, and collection of longitudinal assessment data, including measures of executive function and physiological stress reactivity.

2)      Another major goal will be for the postdoc to be actively involved in the preparation and submission of new federal research grants, such as to obtain funding to collect genetic data from participants in the research study above, and to apply for other research grants in the postdoc’s area of interest.

Thus, an optimal candidate would be one with:  training in child/family psychology, particularly with an emphasis on preschool populations and biological/genetic aspects of mental health; strong writing skills and research or grant-writing experience, and an ability to work in a culturally competent manner with children and parents from diverse backgrounds.

If you have any trainees who may be interested in learning more about this 2-year postdoc opportunity, please encourage them to contact:
