The Departments of Neurobiology & Behavior, Neurology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Psychology are seeking to recruit an outstanding basic or clinical investigator (MD or PhD or equivalent degree required) to be the Director of a new Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at Stony Brook University. This interdepartmental Center will lie within the University’s Neurosciences Institute, and focus on a research mission, while contributing to the care of the many individuals with autism spectrum disorders in Suffolk County (population 1.5 million).
The successful candidate will have a nationally-recognized clinical or bench research program relevant to understanding or treating autism spectrum disorders. The Director will receive a faculty appointment as an Associate or Full Professor on the tenure track in one or more of the departments within the Neurosciences Institute, with tenure awarded if appropriate, as well as a competitive salary and benefits package. The Director will also receive a strong start-up package, state salary support, and protected time to continue his/her research program. The Director will be expected to work with relevant Department Heads to recruit existing and additional faculty researchers to the Center and oversee their work. He/she will be provided with several faculty lines to support these recruitments. The successful candidates will hold faculty appointment in the appropriate School of Medicine or School of Arts and Sciences department based on the incumbent's area of expertise.
