Meet the Experts: An Interview with Jungnam Kim, Ph. D.
Wednesday February 11, 2015  from 5:00 - 6:00 PM  Eastern Time  

Dr. Kim will discuss the topic, “"Empowering Parents to be Advocates for Their Children"  

Dr. Kim is Assistant Professor, Department of Counseling Psychology and Guidance Services, at Ball State University. She received her PhD in counselor education, with a specialization in school counseling from University of Maryland at College Park. Before she came to the U.S. A., she taught and counseled elementary school students in South Korea. 

Her research focuses on parent empowerment, intersection of race/ethnicity, income, and language on parent empowerment, school bonding and college readiness in enhancing students’ academic achievement. Currently, she researches the effects of parent empowerment on academic achievement using a large national dataset as well as the effects of the intersectionality of race/ethnicity, income and language on parent empowerment. She is particularly interested in a parent empowerment scale using a primary data and testing the effects of parent empowerment programs on parents’ level of empowerment as well as on students’ academic outcomes using experimental design. Her research goal is that her work would contribute to enhance equity, access and academic achievement among marginalized students by increasing parents’ influence on students’ academic, social and career development.

Dr. Quick is senior author of Preventive Stress Management in Organizations, published by APA Books.
 
Dr. Quick is professor of organizational behavior and John and Judy Goolsby–Jacqualyn A. Fouse Endowed Chair in the Goolsby Leadership Academy at the University of Texas at Arlington and Honorary Professor, Lancaster University Management School, Lancaster, England. He is a partner in NelsonQuick Group, LLC
 
Dr. Quick has over 100 publications in 10 languages. He is a fellow of the APA, the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the American Institute of Stress. He was honored with a Maroon Citation by Colgate University, the 2002 Harry and Miriam Levinson Award by the American Psychological Foundation, and the Legion of Merit by the U.S. Air Force.
