Pediatric Psychologist positions at Children's Health/Children's Medical Center Dallas

Children’s HealthTM Children’s Medical Center (Dallas, TX) is seeking 2 full- time pediatric health psychologists in the areas of Gastroenterology and Epilepsy.
 
Gastroenterology
As a member of the Psychology team in the Department of Gastroenterology (GI), the GI psychologist will evaluate and provide outpatient and inpatient intervention services to patients with gastroenterological disorders, including but not limited to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Functional Abdominal Pain, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Obesity, and Constipation/Encopresis. Patients are referred by their GI provider or seen in the hospital while inpatient. Evaluations will include clinical interviews and communication of recommendations to members of the multidisciplinary team. Interventions will include cognitive behavioral therapy, gut-directed hypnotherapy, motivational interviewing, behavior management, supportive interventions, and pain management/relaxation training. The psychologist will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the local chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and their programs including support groups for patients and their parents, the North Texas Chapter Medical Advisory Committee, and Camp Oasis, an annual week-long camp for youth with IBD. Services will be provided at our Dallas and Plano campuses.
Epilepsy Center
The Epilepsy Center psychologist will collaborate with other members of the Epilepsy multidisciplinary team to evaluate and treat patients with comorbid neurological and psychiatric conditions, with a focus on teenagers with epilepsy. Clinical responsibilities include screening and providing evidence-based treatment to adolescents seen in the Epilepsy Center and their families. Experience with epilepsy, conversion disorder, and cognitive-behavioral therapy is preferred. The psychologist will be involved in existing programs offered by the center including a teen transition program and a therapeutic summer camp for teens with epilepsy. The psychologist will also be actively involved in program development to identify and implement efficient strategies for identifying and treating mental health conditions in the large volume of patients served by the Epilepsy Center. An additional aspect of the role will be training other professionals in the specific needs and treatment of patients with non-epileptic seizures to create a team-based approach to address this common disorder.
Additional details
Both positions are part of the Psychology reporting structure, which includes other psychologists and therapists integrated into pediatric subspecialty areas. Psychology staff members have close and supportive working relationships with hospital-based physician specialists and community pediatricians. The division has a well-developed training program with an APA-accredited post-doctoral fellowship in clinical child psychology. Positions involve frequent opportunities for teaching and supervision of psychology trainees as well as medical students and pediatric residents. Although clinical and educational activities will be the primary focus of the positions, research and other scholarly activity will be encouraged, and opportunities exist for collaborative research with established researchers. Psychologists hired into these positions will be considered for a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern.

Qualifications
Education
-          Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program
-          Postdoctoral fellowship training in clinical child or pediatric health psychology
-          Internship training from an APA-accredited program in clinical child or pediatric health psychology 
Licenses & certifications
-          A passing score on the EPPP at the level required for licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
-          Licensure as a Psychologist or as a Provisionally Licensed Psychologist in Texas by date of hire 
Experience
-          Previous clinical experience with this population is preferred
-          Evidence for commitment to research with this population is preferred.
