3 open positions at East Tennessee State University

The DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY at EAST TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for THREE tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR positions.  All positions are expected to begin 8/15/16.  Two of the positions are in the general area of CLINICAL/COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY.  For the Pediatric/Child Clinical position, highest priority will be given to candidates with expertise or interest in child or pediatric psychology; interest in rural mental health/primary care is a plus but not a requirement of the position.  For the Primary Care position, highest priority will be given to candidates with expertise and/or interest in primary care psychology, integrated care, or health psychology.  Applicants for both positions must have completed an APA accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology and an APA accredited psychology internship by 12/31/16, or be currently licensed as a psychologist.  Eventual licensure is an expectation for both positions.
The third position is in BEHAVIORAL NEUROSCIENCE.  Applications from candidates using small animals to model psychological processes are welcome.  The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. by 12/31/16 in the area of behavioral neuroscience, broadly defined, and is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in behavioral neuroscience.  Competency to teach in additional areas such as psychopharmacology, cognitive psychology, sensation & perception, experimental methods, and statistics will be helpful to the Department.  The university maintains excellent AAALAC accredited facilities.
Throughout the hiring process, we look for evidence of candidates’ abilities to contribute to collegiality and good will within our thriving department. The Department of Psychology at ETSU houses an APA-accredited clinical Ph.D. concentration with a special focus on rural mental health and primary care psychology, and has been identified as an exemplary program in training students to practice in integrated settings. The department also houses a complementary Ph.D. concentration in experimental psychology that focuses on translational research.
The department expects all successful candidates to establish and maintain active research programs involving undergraduate and graduate students, and to pursue extramural funding. Exceptional collaborative research opportunities across a variety of psychological fields are provided by the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, which operates under the auspices of ETSU, and is consistently ranked nationally among rural colleges of medicine.
The Department is family friendly, and welcomes applications from dual career couples possessing credentials congruent with our advertised positions.  ETSU is surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge and Appalachian mountains, and is located in Johnson City, Tennessee, which contributes to a metropolitan statistical area of 500,000 residents.  The area enjoys a mild climate in both summer and winter, and boasts numerous waterways, parks, trails, and resorts for year-round recreational activities.  The area has been ranked as a desirable place to live by several national publications.  In August 2012 Johnson City was identified by CNNMoney as being among the nation’s Top 25 most affordable home markets. Candidates from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
