TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON:

The Department of Psychology at the University of Houston anticipates four tenure-track positions beginning Fall 2016.  Three are at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor and one position is Open Rank.  The positions are in the following areas:  Clinical Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology major area of study), Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience,

Industrial/Organizational, and Quantitative Methods.  Candidates for all positions should demonstrate a record predictive of future scholarly productivity, potential and commitment to develop a nationally competitive program of research, and the ability to contribute to undergraduate and doctoral programs. The department encourages cross-program and area collaborations and affiliations. Individuals with cross-cutting disciplinary and/or methodological interests are encouraged to apply.  Individuals with strong methodological and content area expertise should indicate their interest in being considered for multiple positions.

UH is located in the heart of the nation’s fourth largest city, and is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse public universities in the nation, with over 40,000 students on the main campus. UH is a Tier One research university and is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution. Nearby is the world’s largest medical center, the Texas Medical Center (TMC). UH is a full member of the TMC linked through federal grants, research institutes, faculty appointments, and other academic activities. Rice University, with which we also have long-term connections, is also nearby. 1.             CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY (NEUROPSYCHOLOGY MAJOR AREA OF STUDY).   The Department seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate level whose primary research interests are in clinical neuropsychology. UH is a Carnegie-Designated Tier One Public Research University. The Clinical Psychology Program has been continuously accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1959 and offers a well-established Major Area of Study in clinical neuropsychology as part of the clinical psychology program. The specific area of research within clinical neuropsychology (topic, population, age range) is open, but successful applicants will demonstrate evidence of research productivity and potential for success in securing external funding. Candidates who can interface with the other clinical program faculty (e.g., child clinical psychology, adult behavioral disorders) and with the department’s graduate programs in Social/Health Psychology, Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience, and/or Industrial/Organizational Psychology are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must also demonstrate a clear commitment to excellence in the supervision of graduate research, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and in supervision of graduate clinical practica.

2.               DEVELOPMENTAL COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE.  The Department seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate level to join its integrated program in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience. Our program has concentrations in Cognitive Development, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Behavioral Neuroscience but, because students receive training in all areas, it leads to a truly integrative educational experience.  We seek to add a faculty member whose research interests fit broadly into the current program yet expands its scope.  Current faculty in this program have research interests that cover the lifespan, employ both human and animal approaches, and focus on cognitive development, genetics of developmental disabilities, human classroom learning, exercise-driven neuroplasticity, addiction neurobiology, and neural bases of bilingualism. Area of research specialty is open but preference will be given to candidates who conduct research in humans and have either a developmental or cognitive approach.  Candidates whose research bridges to other areas of the department are especially encouraged.  Commitment to excellence in research is essential and the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an externally funded program of research in their chosen area and to direct graduate student research.  Commitment to teaching is also required and individuals should be interested in and capable of offering courses in their topic areas and as well as general courses in Developmental or Cognitive Psychology.

3.               INDUSTRIAL/ORGANIZATIONAL.  The Department seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.  We seek applicants with interest in building a nationally competitive research program. Potential for scholarly productivity in top I/O journals is more important than the specific area of expertise in the field.  Since 1950, the I/O PhD program has subscribed to the scientist-practitioner model and remains committed to training students for successful research careers.

4.               QUANTITATIVE METHODS.  The Department seeks to hire a tenure track (open rank) faculty member in the area of quantitative methods.  Candidates should have a record of scholarly productivity and a nationally competitive program of research appropriate to rank, and an interest and ability to contribute to undergraduate and doctoral research and teaching programs.  The specific area of quantitative focus is open, but candidates with interests in Bayesian methods, experimental design and analysis, regression, multivariate methods, multi-level and structural equation models, categorical and latent class models, methods for high-dimensional data, and/or robust statistics are especially being sought.  Applicants should be prepared to participate in the Department's core quantitative undergraduate and graduate instructional curricula. Primary and secondary affiliations are encouraged with the Department’s doctoral programs in I/O, Social/Health, Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience, and Clinical Psychology (adult, child, and clinical neuropsychology major areas of study), the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistics, and the Center for Advanced Computing and Data Systems, which are university-wide research centers.
