The University of Central Florida Department of Psychology (College of Sciences) seeks applicants for two Assistant Professor level tenure-track positions in clinical psychology and technology to begin in Fall 2016. The appointment will be in the doctoral program in clinical psychology, but faculty also will be part of the initiation of a new, multidisciplinary translational initiative dedicated to developing and integrating innovative technological approaches to enhance intervention and dissemination initiatives for psychological health. Primary teaching duties will be in the Department of Psychology, with opportunities to provide collaborative training and research experiences with other consortium members.
We are looking for two clinical psychologists (clinical scientists or scientist-practitioners) with expertise in empirically supported intervention/prevention efforts (particularly the underlying mechanisms) and the ability to work with technology partners to collaborate on innovative ways to optimize the therapeutic process and outcome (e.g., web-based interventions, use of virtual reality, smart phone apps). Another area of interest/expertise is the use of technology to create more valid methods of assessment. Preference for one position will be given to individuals whose work is in the area of stress, trauma and the anxiety disorders. The area for the other position is open. These individuals would spearhead development, feasibility, acceptability, usability and efficacy trials, working in collaboration with other Center faculty and small business partners. Individuals will be expected to develop a scientific portfolio of technological innovations that uses technology to enable innovative, theoretically-driven experiences that optimize behavioral and cognitive change. Applicants are expected to acquire external funding to support these efforts. Additionally, they would lead a nation-wide service that would provide consultation on the design and utility of software, apps, and games designed to assist mental health providers and their patients.
Applicants for the position must have completed a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and a psychology internship, both from American Psychological Association Accredited Programs by Aug. 8, 2016. Candidates must be licensed or license eligible in the state of Florida. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed their postdoctoral year and are immediately eligible to sit for the licensing exam. Candidates must also demonstrate a record of scholarship capable of attracting external funding, and strong teaching potential/experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Compensation for the nine-month appointment is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. UCF is classified as a Very High Research Activity (RU/VH) University by the Carnegie Foundation and has the second largest enrollment in the country (approximately 63,000). The Department of Psychology at UCF has 52 full-time faculty, over 4,000 undergraduate majors, and houses Ph.D. programs in Applied Experimental and Human Factors, Clinical, and I/O Psychology.
