August 1 2016 Postdoctoral Residency Announcement in Pasadena, California

The Arroyos Psychological Associates (TAPA) invites applicants to two full-time position openings in its August 2016 postdoctoral residency training program in Clinical Psychology.  TAPA is a California professional psychological corporation located in Pasadena, California, 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. This residency is designed to prepare the candidate for a career in private practice in the Los Angeles area and to assist the resident in preparing to take the licensing exam to practice psychology in the state of California.
This position is ideal for a candidate with doctoral level training in clinical psychology who is seeking specialized training in assessment and intervention with patients who have severe mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, major depression, schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, severe anxiety disorders, and co-occurring chemical dependency. This patient population is at high risk for co-occurring medical diagnoses, neuropsychological diagnoses, and/or (c) psycholegal and forensic issues as complications of their primary psychiatric and psychological clinical presentation.  These issues are comprehensively addressed within the clinical setting by the multidisciplinary treatment team of clinical psychologists and psychiatrists in an integrated case management model.
The resident will provide individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, psychological testing and assessment, and case management to patients. The resident will also be actively involved in ongoing program development. The resident will work in outpatient, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and Residential Treatment Center (RTC) settings. The resident will gain understanding of the interface between these practice settings and inpatient psychiatric, chemical dependency, and medical-surgical hospital settings.  The resident will learn procedures for crisis clinical evaluations, involuntary holds to hospitals, and LPS conservatorships.  The resident will also learn basic clinical psychopharmacology as applied to the practice of clinical psychology.
Accreditation for the Residency by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC) is currently being pursued.  Applicants must have the following qualifications in order to be considered for the residency:
  1. Completion of all requirements for the Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology by August 1, 2016.
  2. Completion of an APA, AAPIC, or CAPIC approved pre-doctoral internship program by the start date.
  3. Candidates are required to have already completed one year of pre-doctoral inpatient hospital training. Candidates with two years of hospital training are especially well matched for this residency.

Interested candidates who meet these qualifications should submit a letter of interest, current CV, 3 letters of recommendation including one from the pre-doctoral hospital internship setting, and graduate transcripts via e-mail by January 11, 2016 to:
